Adult Circumcision in MexicoOutpatient surgery, in English.
Adult circumcision for medical reasons or personal choice, performed by Dr. Guillermo Cueto Vega in an outpatient operating room at Star Médica Mérida.

Adult circumcision is a common outpatient procedure: for phimosis (a foreskin that will not retract), recurrent infections, a short frenulum, or simply personal, cultural or religious choice.
It is performed under local anesthesia with light sedation and you go home the same day.
Sometimes the whole foreskin does not need to be removed: when the problem is only a short frenulum, a frenuloplasty can solve it.
When to reach out
A foreskin that will not retract (phimosis) Recurrent balanitis or foreskin infections Pain or tearing of the frenulum during sex Difficulty with hygiene due to a tight foreskin Suspicious lesions or scarring on the foreskin Personal, cultural or religious choice
Treatment options
Standard adult circumcision
Removal of the foreskin with absorbable sutures, under local anesthesia and light sedation, in about 30 to 45 minutes, with same-day discharge.
Frenuloplasty
A conservative surgery when the problem is only a short frenulum, preserving the foreskin, with a shorter recovery.
Phimosis surgery
Full circumcision or preputioplasty (widening the foreskin opening) for patients who prefer to keep the skin.
Circumcision for foreskin lesions
Removal of the foreskin when there are suspicious lesions, with the tissue sent to pathology.
The right option depends on your case. Dr. Cueto recommends a treatment only after reviewing your history and studies.
Cost and planning your trip
Treatment takes place at Star Médica Mérida, a private high-specialty hospital certified by Mexico’s General Health Council (Consejo de Salubridad General) — at a significantly lower cost than in the US or Canada. Because every case is different, we do not publish a single price: you receive an itemized written quote before you book anything.
Your personalized plan includes:
Surgeon and team fees Hospital: operating room and stay Anesthesia and supplies Pre-operative evaluation and indicated studies Follow-up visits Recommended length of stay in Mérida
How long to stay? It depends on the procedure and on your case, so it is defined individually and included in your plan — you will know before you buy your flights.
Recovery and follow-up from home
Swelling and sensitivity are normal for three to five days. Most patients return to desk work between day three and seven; stitches are absorbable. Sexual activity usually resumes after four to six weeks, once healing is confirmed. A post-op check is scheduled at 7 to 10 days — plan your stay with us, or arrange a remote check.
Frequently asked questions
Is circumcision painful?
You will not feel pain during the procedure thanks to local anesthesia, sometimes with light sedation. Afterwards, discomfort for a few days is normal and controlled with oral pain medication.
Do I need to stay in the hospital?
No. It is outpatient: you are admitted, the procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes, and you go home the same day with a companion.
When can I resume sexual activity?
Usually after four to six weeks, once complete healing is confirmed.
