Erectile Dysfunction TreatmentDiscreet, modern and in English.
Dr. Guillermo Cueto Vega offers the full range of ED treatments, from medication to penile prosthesis, with a confidential consultation at Star Médica Mérida.

Erectile dysfunction is more common with age, but it is not something you have to accept. In most cases there is an identifiable cause and an effective treatment.
It can also be an early warning sign: the arteries of the penis are smaller than the coronary arteries and may show vascular damage years before the heart does. That makes it a legitimate reason for a checkup.
Treatment goes step by step, from the least invasive option to the most definitive.
When to reach out
Difficulty getting an erection Erections that do not last long enough Less firm erections than before Lower libido or fewer morning erections Medication no longer works for you ED after prostate cancer surgery
Treatment options
PDE5 inhibitors
First-line oral medication (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil), safe and effective in most patients when properly prescribed and dosed.
Low-intensity shock wave therapy (Li-ESWT)
A non-invasive regenerative treatment done in the office, without anesthesia, in several short sessions — mainly for mild to moderate vascular ED.
Hormone replacement therapy
Only when testosterone deficiency is confirmed by lab tests and symptoms match, with close follow-up.
Intracavernosal injections (alprostadil)
Highly effective when oral medication does not work; the self-injection technique is taught in the office.
Penile prosthesis
The surgical option when other therapies have not worked, especially after radical prostatectomy or in severe organic ED.
The right option depends on your case. Dr. Cueto recommends a treatment only after reviewing your history and studies.
Cost and planning your trip
Treatment takes place at Star Médica Mérida, a private high-specialty hospital certified by Mexico’s General Health Council (Consejo de Salubridad General) — at a significantly lower cost than in the US or Canada. Because every case is different, we do not publish a single price: you receive an itemized written quote before you book anything.
Your personalized plan includes:
Surgeon and team fees Hospital: operating room and stay Anesthesia and supplies Pre-operative evaluation and indicated studies Follow-up visits Recommended length of stay in Mérida
How long to stay? It depends on the procedure and on your case, so it is defined individually and included in your plan — you will know before you buy your flights.
Recovery and follow-up from home
Most ED treatments are outpatient. Shock wave therapy is done in sessions, so planning your stay matters — we organize it with you. A penile prosthesis involves a short hospital stay and resuming sexual activity after about six weeks; your stay in Mérida and follow-up are planned before travel.
Frequently asked questions
Is ED normal at a certain age?
It is more common with age, but not normal in the sense of inevitable. In most cases there is a cause and a treatment.
Are sildenafil and tadalafil safe?
They have decades of use and a well-studied safety profile in properly evaluated patients. They must not be combined with nitrates or used in certain heart conditions, so an evaluation comes first.
How many shock wave sessions do I need, and can I do them during a trip?
Treatment is given in several short sessions. Whether the schedule fits your travel plans is discussed with you before you come.
Is the consultation confidential?
Yes. You talk directly with Dr. Cueto, in English, and your information is protected by medical confidentiality.
